Dear Grandad
I now realise that I was lost within the crowd of the many other grandchildren you have. I will never forget the first 13 childhood years I had with you, grandma and of course Tinker the dog. But, time and tide wait for no man and its only in recent years as an adult myself, that I truly found out what s special contribution you made in WW2. Your medals don't demonstrate the sacrifices you made for us and our country. My whole life issues have revolved around these, but only now all these years later do I understand.
Joining the war effort before your time, ignoring orders and parachuting back into Bolton for a little ooh la la with grandma to produce my dad should be made into a Hollywood movie.
Every time I see the arches at Chester Racecourse, I will remember you and your passion for horse racing, as a kid watching the Saturday afternoon races at yours, grandma's (and Tinker's) house during those most treasured of times with you.
You will alway s be the one I look up to and never knew you as 'King Lovatt', but if the cap fits wear it, eh.
Only now you're gone, do I realise how much we have in common and how I miss you.
A humble man, but only a few know how much of a great man you really were.
Lots of love.
Stuart Lovatt & Brandon
