We've lost a husband, father, son, brother, grandad and friend.
John, and the world as we know it will never be the same again.
John fought his illness with with courage, dignity and despite terrible times he never complained and didn't want people to know how difficult some days could be.
But that was John, his determined approach to life allowed us to travel and make treasured memories that we will have forever.
The best times by far had to be Amy and Mike getting married and then like a miracle, he welcomed his grandson Elliott into the world, who he adored.
Whilst we are heartbroken now and paralysed with the loss, we take comfort in the person that we knew. He was kind, loving, supportive, a true gentleman and he would want us to move forward however difficult.
We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all our family and friends who have showed so much love and support throughout these four years. Without it we would not have the strength we have now.

We were blessed to get to know this family in recent years. How lovely they are. So sad to see John struggle on without a moan but what wonderful memories they made, most recently in Northumberland . He truly was a gentle gentleman, and you’ve been amazing throughout this time too Lisa. Rest in peace John, love to you all xx

When I first started work over 40 years ago John was one of the first people I met. I had not brought any lunch and John gave me a lift to the sandwich shop. This was one of John's many qualities, always caring for people and making you feel welcome whenever you met him. Ever since that first day John has been a dear friend. When John retired to care for his Father it was John who helped me to decide to retire to look after my Father too, and I remember John saying me to spend as much time as I could with my Dad. I would not be where I am today if it was not for John's help and advice over the years. He was one of the most kind and caring people I have known.
My thoughts are with Lisa, Amy, Mike, Elliott and family at this very sad time.
I have many great memories of John from the early days going to watch local football teams Bury and Oldham to being invited to Amy and Mike's wedding, which was a lovely magical night that I will always remember.
It was an honour and a privilege to have known John. He was a real gentleman.
RIP dear friend you will always be remembered.
I worked with John in my early days in an office environment and we soon became firm friends. I have been to Old Trafford on many occasions sat next to John and then sat just a row away when Lisa took the seat. John was one of the nicest guys I have ever met and we shared so many values l feel very fortunate to have met him and I am so sad that he has gone
I wish Lisa and her family can eventually come to terms with their loss and remember John with a loving smile on their faces
God bless you Biff and may you rest in peace

I worked with John at Manchester for many years and have great memories of our time there. We never agreed on football but he offered his dads season ticket to me for years for the derby. He did it on purpose I never saw city win there with him.
I have lost a great friend and it’s so sad to see the effect it’s had on his family. He was a really nice person and generous as well.
I am proud to call him a friend and proud of the way he fought his illness. RIP John, never forgotten.
I went to school with Amy and throughout my childhood and beyond John has always seemed to be the perfect Dad.
A lovely neighbour and friend. A gentleman, family man and all round beautiful soul.
John was one of our dearest friends for over 30 years. We started off as neighbours then attended Lisa and Jonhs wedding just over 30 years sgo. We have shared so many memories to many to mention. From our 1st holiday in portugal and then all around the world from camping in yorkshire through to florida as our children were born we became closer and have so many memories of all our good and bad times. My son connor had the privilege of having Lisa and John as godparents and john took him to his first united match aged 7. Denis and John known as Mr Fred and Mr Perry have their own memories of watching united. Lisa you know what i mean. Their lovely daughter Amy and my daughter Michaela born in the same year also share a bond and it was lovely to have the privelege of seeing them both married 2 years ago. Seeing Elliot arrive was such a joy to lisa and John and ensures that the lovely Mr Griffiths will live on through his family. RIP Mr Griffiths one of the most decent and kindest person anyone could ever meet.
We only got to know John over the last few years. He was a true gentleman who we never heard complain no matter how he was feeling and always had a smile for us. It was a pleasure to have known him and he will be sadly missed xxx
