For those of you that knew Dee, I bet you all can think of a great memory. Please write some happy memories in our book of condolences for us all to read about and remember good times.
Dee was born and raised in Bury, with her sister Margaret and lived all her life here. At a young age, she married John and they had three children. During their marriage, they were landlords of several pubs and made many friends - some of the pubs were 'Eagle and Child' on Bolton Road and 'Shepherds Arms' in Swinton.
Dee worked at Woodbury, looking after adults with disabilities for 14 years - retiring early to look after her grandchildren.
She sadly buried her husband in 1998 and she remained a widow following his death.
Dee was proud grandmother to five grandchildren, all of whom adored her - known as 'Dee Dee'.
She was always the first to chat to everyone and loved social occasions with the family. More recently, she found a whole new sense of freedom with her electric scooter; visiting from Gretna Green to the Lake District!
A generous, kind, caring person who made an impression on many people and has left us with some great memories that will make us smile fondly in times to come.
Dee only suffered for a short while and died peacefully at Bury Hospice surrounded by her family.

Dear Debra & Family,
We were so shocked and saddened to hear the news of your Mums passing....
Your Mum, Doreen, came into my life after my Mum, Kathleen Howcroft, gave birth to me and my late twin brother David
We lived on Pine Street and your Mum on Holly Street
Mum said your Mum was an absolute stunner, a beautiful person who loved coming round to our house and was proud as punch when she pushed our pram on walks round Openshaw Park with my Mum
I’m pretty sure when we last visited your Mum on Hollins Lane, that she had a sepia photo of her with us twins in pram, on her side
We tried several times over the last few months to contact Doreen but no line contact so we presumed she had moved house
Sometimes my Mum, who is now 91, would see Margaret in M&S occasionally but nowadays she doesn’t venture down to Bury
The last time we saw Doreen, she said we all should meet up for lunch, alas that never came about
May I ask, if one is available, a copy of Doreen’s order of service could be sent for my Mum, as she would love to treasure the memories she has of your Mum
I am contactable on 07956 659744
Our love, thoughts and prayers are with you all
Love
Peter Howcroft, Mum Kathleen Howcroft and all our family xxx
So sorry to hear of Doreen’s passing. I worked at Woodbury with her for many years nd we had so many laughs. Especially if I was on a sleep in and of course Doreen worked nights. We were always talking about our kids and having a laugh what they got up to. Rest in peace Doreen sleep tight xx
Special memories of the lovely Dee Dee. Always looking her best, always a smile and always a comment to make you laugh, especially when she thought that no one was listening.
We'll never forget the family party when she struck up an allegiance with Grandad Jack, inviting him to share "a little snifter" or "a quick spliff". She frequently had her words mixed up but that's one of the things that made her special, she will be missed by many.
Good night God Bless Doreen.
I have treasured memories of sharing a pre Benny's bottle of wine with you Alison, Deb and Tricia in your new red and white kitchen which you were so chuffed with!!! You were always such good fun and so easy to talk to and very young at heart!! You were a mum in a million whose family meant everything to her. Sleep tight Dee Dee. Lots of love, Ange xx
A wonderful lady whose company will be sadly missed by everyone who had the privilege of meeting her, always found the time to speak to anyone, a lady who lived and loved life to the full. Doreen, we will never forget you. Sleep peacefully, God bless. Brent and family.

She loved going out with Debra and Alison and being one of the girls she made an impression on everyone who met her.
