After a long illness, sadly Jack died on Saturday 12th January. He wanted to die at home and fortunately he achieved that.
Jack was born in Aspull in Wigan. He was the eldest son of Jimmy and Lydia Whittle and had 7 brothers and sisters Anne, Mary, Cath, Rita, Helen, Thomas and Michael.
He married his wife June in 1952 and they had been married for 66 years. They had 3 children Stephen, Annette and Yvonne and 5 grandchildren Louise, Joe, Chris, Ruth and Katie and also great grandchildren, Phoebe, Poppy, Sadie, Clayton, Christian, Jessica, Olivia, Chloe, Ria and Tyler-Joe.
When Jack retired he and June moved to Cornwall and they both loved it there, making many friends and memories. Unfortunately due to ill health they had to leave Cornwall and eventually moved back up north in 2006.
He had a full life, enjoying tinkering in the shed or playing golf and of course he loved to sing so music was a big part of his life. He was generous to a fault and in his words was always "Champion".
He was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer in 2015 and was fine until 2016 when he fell out of bed and broke his hip. He was in hospital for 6 weeks and developed pneumonia but he bounced back and with wonderful carers, family members and June's determination and help from amazing neighbours he was comfortable until September 2018 when he started to deteriorate.
He developed a chest infection in early 2019 and unfortunately didn't recover.
We hope you will help us to celebrate Jack's life on the 24th of January.
There will be refreshments at Radcliffe Borough Football Club following the service at the Crematorium, where we can all raise a glass to Jack's memory.
