It was about 50 ye4ars ago when we were a young married couple that Margaret came into our lives. Even at our first meeting, it was clear that Margaret was unusual and a force to be reckoned with. Over the years she has supported every member of our family from time to time.
Helen has known "Margie" all her life. When Susan returned to work when Helen was a toddler we had no qualms about leaving our precious child in Margaret's care. She soon became like a granny with whom Helen spent very happy days. Helen loved the books Margaret brought to read with her and which she now reads to her children. She also loved the many trips to the library to get books - sometimes twice a day!
Margaret believed in developing a child's creative side to the extent that creative play as not interrupted prematurely even if they were meant to be going out! In Helen's teenage years Margaret was an important confidante for her. She was a much loved daily presence in Helen's life until she went off to university and there has been a continuing bond between them ever since.
Margaret supported our parents too particularly Susan's mum when her dad was very ill. After that they became close friends and went on many holidays together. When mum could no longer look after herself and came to live with us, Margaret cared for her providing companionship and making her life comfortable in every way. She was always there for us supporting us through difficult times, illness and bereavement.
We will remember her unfailing care for us with love and gratitude.
We will keep in our memory the image of the strong, independent woman she was, who passed on these qualities to the next generation.
We will miss her so much. Thank you, Margaret , for being there
