Loving husband, dad, grandpa and great grandpa

Phil, son of Elizabeth and William, born in Besses o’th’Barn, 4th of 5 children (Cyril, Eileen, Brenda and Stuart). Phil attended Radcliffe Technical College to study Engineering and took up an apprenticeship at General Engineering, Radcliffe alongside his brother Cyril. Phil met Sylvia at Prestwich youth club and they went on to marry in 1961 at St Mary’s Church, Prestwich. they remained living in Besses o’th’Barn for the next 6 years before moving further afield to Brandlesholme, where their 4 children,Heather, Alison, Stephen and Vivienne grew up. This remains the family home to this day. For the next 20 years Phil worked throughout Europe and Africa as a Project Engineer where his family joined him often. In his early years, Phil played cornet in Besses Boys Band and later played euphonium in Ramsbottom Silver Band and Tottington Band. On his retirement Phil joined Walmersley Golf club, Bury Art Society and Harwood Art Society. He was also a member of the congregation at All Saints Church, in Brandlesholme. Phil was fortunate to make lifelong friends through his travels and many interests. He was at his happiest spending time with his family, including his 7 grandchildren and 3 great-granddaughters. He will be sadly missed by his friends and family. Any donations received will go to Bury Hospice who cared for Phil in his final days.
