Dear Don,
Even though I have been an ex-Lovatt for many years, I remember what a lovely father-in-law you were and I was so pleased when we renewed contact years later and then had regular telephone conversations to keep up with family events and you listened and cared! Have missed the chats and will miss you!
Love you loads - rest in peace.
Sylvia
Uncle Don. The last of the Four Lovatt brothers - Walter, Donald, Stanley and Eric. Very different whilst very similar people. All loved very much. You and Aunty Edith would laugh when I used to burst through your back door in Arthur Street puffing and gasping for breath. "Whose chasing you now you" Used to say with a laugh"!
Times where quite hard in those years after the end of the War and in the Fifties but we all made the best of it and knew we were loved.
I was totally amazed at the strength and depth of the family you have left behind! To quote: 4 Children, 15 Grandchildren, 27 Great Grandchildren & 8 Great Great Grandchildren - WOW! That is some achievement from you and Aunty Edith! You can now rest in Sublime Peace together - A job well done.
Dear Grandad
I now realise that I was lost within the crowd of the many other grandchildren you have. I will never forget the first 13 childhood years I had with you, grandma and of course Tinker the dog. But, time and tide wait for no man and its only in recent years as an adult myself, that I truly found out what s special contribution you made in WW2. Your medals don't demonstrate the sacrifices you made for us and our country. My whole life issues have revolved around these, but only now all these years later do I understand.
Joining the war effort before your time, ignoring orders and parachuting back into Bolton for a little ooh la la with grandma to produce my dad should be made into a Hollywood movie.
Every time I see the arches at Chester Racecourse, I will remember you and your passion for horse racing, as a kid watching the Saturday afternoon races at yours, grandma's (and Tinker's) house during those most treasured of times with you.
You will alway s be the one I look up to and never knew you as 'King Lovatt', but if the cap fits wear it, eh.
Only now you're gone, do I realise how much we have in common and how I miss you.
A humble man, but only a few know how much of a great man you really were.
Lots of love.
Stuart Lovatt & Brandon
Dearest Uncle Don, I want to thank you for some wonderful childhood memories, some of which are so simple like boiled eggs and soldiers but it was more the love and stability that both you and Auntie Edee gave my Sister and myself that I remember more.
We have been writing, phoning and meeting for years and I always looked forward to seeing your smiling eyes and face which lit up the room.
God bless you, your Family, friends and all who loved you. You were a wonderful, warm, kind and generous man and I had the privilege to have been part of your eventful life.
You are now with the woman of your dreams and it fills my heart with joy to think of you both reunited once again. God bless you.
John sends his love and sympathy to all the Family and was so glad to have known such a caring, loving endearing gentleman.
We salute you.xx
Don you were a true gentleman. It was an honour and privilege to have known you. You supported my family when we lost our grandad and mum within three weeks of each other and helped us immeasurably with your kindness, laughter and of course fresh eggs! I looked forward to our regular telephone chats when you moved away to Warwick - you always regaled me with tales of you and your brothers growing up in Darcy Lever and how many times you ended up in t'cut! It was lovely seeing you in Warwick earlier this year but I hear you are now coming home to rest. My heart goes out to all your family who are, no doubt, keenly feeling your loss. Rest now, brave solider, your watch is over. Sleep in eternal peace Don. Your friend Kieran.
It was an honour to have met you. Good night and God bless . RIP xxx
