You were my first Area Ted at Bamfurlong and to meet when I started as a plastic. We had so many laughs.....still smiling now when you had to deal with a drunk female and all her clothes kept falling off. The lottery ticket moment and Louis Walsh impressions so many. RIP Rob. Love Peggy xx

I had the pleasure of working with Rob a number of years ago at Bamfurlong. He made going to work a pleasure, as he would always make me fall about laughing. Not many people like him and such a loss. My condolences go to all his family. X

Big Rob...looked after me when I was a snotty nosed first year at Turton..played football together as younger men particularly at Chapeltown..we'd play then do a tour of pubs in the afternoon. Rob was life and soul wherever we went and a born comedian and story teller.
Was made up when I've told me he had got into the Police..remember being stood with him one night on a Labour party conference and we were both in stitches with reminiscing .
A great character, great gentleman..great all round bloke.
    God bless you Rob.

I was deeply saddened and shocked to read yesterday that Rob has passed away. I had known Rob from Hob Lane Primary School (he was kind, caring, funny and most of all a true friend!) grew up with him, played out and have memories of riding up and down the lane at Hill Top Farm on his mini motor bike with no helmet! I still remember the day; Rob brought part of his finger (which was blown off with a firework) in a jar to primary school. My thoughts are with Rob’s family at this very sad time – he will be missed! x

Robin ....from the late 70s at Hob Lane playgroup via primary school and High School, to the last few chats we had recently, you've been a source of amusement, pride, and the rest! Sending love to you, to your beautiful Mum, brothers and sister. How lucky we are to have had a Robin Dobie in our midst!

Death is nothing at all. It does not count.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
Nothing has happened. Everything remains exactly as it was.
I am I, and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.

Call me by the old familiar name. Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no difference into your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.

Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it.
Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is absolute and unbroken continuity.

What is this death but a negligible accident
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight
I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just round the corner.
All is well. Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost.
One brief moment and all will be as it was before.
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!

You were incredibly brave in your fight . I will always have fond memories of you Robbie - sticking your half a finger up your nose to make us laugh as teenagers! Rest easy pal - huge love ❤️

My memories of Robin are his great sense of humour and him trying to fit into my mini outside the Rose and Crown around 20 years ago, as I used to drop him off sometimes after my shift. Big personality and great guy, sad to here this news

I hadn’t seen Robin for a long long time but wanted to pass on my love to you all. I was at secondary school with Rob and when I first met him was a bit scared! I soon changed my mind once I got to know him, big softy.
I saw him again a number of years ago and then by chance happened to join a boxing class with his lovely wife Laura.
I’m sending love to all his family and friends, thinking of you all xx

i cannot remember ever playing in the same turton team as rob someone might correct me.
but one match springs to mind we were playing tottington away in the hospital cup as the team's were read out i was axed to the bench with rob playing at center half i was not happy.
the game started and rob was having a great tussle with the number 9 it was great to watch, this battle went on until the referee decided to send rob off after a crunching tackle , so i went on in his place and still didn't get to play together. RIP rob love russ

I can remember our conversation at Bamfurlong when Rob told me of his diagnosed illness. It didn’t seem real at the time and I still find it hard to believe that such a cruel thing could happen to a lovely lad. Rob had a lot of time for his friends and was seen as a practical joker. We had some good times working together. Rest in peace my friend.

I have known Rob for almost 40 years, we went to St James nursery, Hob Lane and Edgworth School and then to Turton (Lara Robinson), what a gorgeous human being he was, so many wonderful memories, all our love to Laura, Scott and Mia and to our Marg and the rest of a beautiful family RIP big manx

I haven't seen Rob since he was diagnosed but knew him well throughout my teenage years and twenties. Even as a late teenager he was always the one who 'kept control' of the situation if any trouble happened in any party or pub we were all at. Knew he'd joined the police and didn't surprise me one bit! He was a born peace keeper. Strong man all his life. God bless his family. God bless you Rob. Sleep tight mate ❤️❤️

    Greetings

I’ve known Rob since he was a little nipper riding past our house on his little bike... he was a lovely friendly guy and when he joined our Police family I felt so proud for him and his family! When I heard of his passing I was gutted. My sincerest condolences to his whole family. May he rest in peace x

I worked with Rob many years ago now when he was young man. He worked at Next on menswear in Bolton and quickly became ‘one of the lads’. He had an excellent sense of humour and loved having a bit of fun while trying to sell men’s stuff to the general public. I’m gutted with what’s happened to him, life can be very cruel at times and I will really miss him in the future. God bless Rob and his family/friends. xx
